I was referred here by an old boss and it does not disappoint. Man!! This place was good. I ordered Chicken and Waffles. My little one ordered the chicken tenders and my partner ordered the burger. All of it was so delicious. I mean, it had me in a food coma afterwards. The drinks were big and yummy. We all loved the food. The waitress was so kind and helpful. They were patient and helped us order. Great vibes. Great service. Great food. A must try in the area.

Overall a really chill vibe, great music, and pretty good food. Surprisingly, the oxtails were really good. I didn't care for the greens, as they had a sweeter taste. The fried fish and hush puppies were "meh," nothing to brag home about. The fried green tomatoes were good! The drinks were decent. The crowd is diversified and so is the staff. I'd definitely come back.

Great restaurant in Sacramento for soul food brunch. I tried Fixins on a Sunday for brunch and luckily, because we had reservations, we didn't have to wait. The restaurant was crowded and there were plenty of people waiting outside for a table. We ordered the Oxtails ($28), which comes with rice, gravy, and a choice of Fixin. The oxtail was tender and delicious! We also tried the three piece fried chicken ($21), which comes with 2 Fixins and a biscuit. The fried chicken was amazing, definitely a fan favorite. For the Fixins, we chose the collard greens, potato salad, and red beans with rice. They were all good and added to the meal nicely. The biscuits were good! Especially with their raspberry butter. We were stuffed and had plenty to take home. Our waitress was very friendly and provided good service. The atmosphere was lively and homely. I had a great first visit to one of Sacramento's most popular brunch spots.

Very good food with nice size portions. The chicken, sweet potatoes and Mac and cheese were really tasty. I dunked my biscuit covered in strawberry butter in the sweet potato juice. I would suggest that give you a choice of biscuit or corn muffin. Our smiling server Aime was friendly, but she truly did nothing except take our order. Someone else brought our drinks, food and cleaned the table. I hope she shared the tip we left with the people that did the actual work. We met the manager Billy who was personality plus. He gave me a complimentary tee shirt and hat. I thought that was just sooooooo cool. He is the right person for that job. I am from Chicago and felt a warm welcome. My friend and her family eat at Fixins frequently. Great recommendation. I wish I lived in Sacramento cause I would eat here a lot. 2 thumbs up. Windy City Sister Girl Kim

This place was definitely food for the soul evoking so much nostalgia and elevated classic recipes from our rich black heritage. The shrimp n grits was divine. The gravy for the dish was **chef's kiss**. The gumbo, like everything else was rich and just as tasty as everything. It came with cornbread to soak up the gumbo sauce. I really liked the cornmeal fried green tomatoes and they tasted great with the gravies/sauces too and had a little kick of spicy. Everything paired so good. I can't wait to go back! We went for brunch on a Saturday and it was not too busy. The service was phenomenal. 10/10!

There really aren't even words... let's just say I ate my meal with my eyes closed dancing! That's how I felt when I ate this food! I had the shrimp and grits and they were unbelievable!! My husband had the smothered chicken with Mac and cheese and the grilled okra.... Wooooowwwwww. It truly was the most amazing food we've had. We've travelled many places in California and had soul food in San Francisco many times... nothing comes close to the Fixins. I'm going to be talking about and thinking about this food for a looooong time. No questions about this place it's a 20/10.

Every Soul Often Soul food joint founded by Oak Park native, ex Sacramento Mayor, and NBA All-Star Kevin "KJ" Johnson and his wife, Michelle. Their aim is to elevate Soul Food in a classy, casual, and fun environment with fantastic food and great service. So, far they're well on their way as they now celebrate four locations nationwide, with this Oak Park one being the OG. The Good: *Reservations via OpenTable *Terrific service *Nice selection of local brews from literally just down the street from Oak Park Brewing, Co. *Purple Kool-aid® was an excellent mix and a *must* with Soul Food, imo. *My picky son tore thru their Fried Fish plate. The fish was perfectly crisp, the fries were fantastic, and that mac and cheese was ooey-gooey goodness. *I'd had a hankering for Oxtails and Fixins delivered in spades. The melt-in-your-mouth Oxtail in a delicious umami gravy was heaven on a plate. The salty, earthy collard greens were the perfect texture and a great foil to the Oxtails. *Great ambiance and vibe *Dog-friendly outdoor dining The Meh: *I'd read that parking can be an issue, but we didn't have much issue after circling the block a bit. Street parking only and be sure to read the signs. The Ugly: *Why do I have to drive two hours for this?! C'mon, KJ, open one up in The Bay! Pretty please!!! :'( Conclusion: Fantastic Soul Food and can't wait to try more of their menu in the future. Highly recommended.
